Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
All aircraft movements were stopped due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
Officials had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.
Cause of the Chaos
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Travelers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as backlogs are managed.
