Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She earned almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
